What Your Work is Worth, Honestly

Way Back Home

If you've spent years building a career abroad, the question that arrives somewhere around the second month of seriously considering a move is the one nobody wants to ask out loud. What would I actually earn back in India?

This Calibrator is my attempt at an honest answer. It will ask about your sector, your level, your current compensation, and a few things about how the work has changed under your feet in the last year or two. In return, it will tell you the realistic range for someone like you in India today, what that number genuinely buys you once purchasing power is accounted for, and the three or four things I'd want a returnee at your level to be thinking about that the comp number itself can't tell you.

The numbers are drawn from current 2026 market data across the major sectors — tech, finance, consulting, law, medicine, academia, and the independent creator and consulting economy. The ranges are deliberately wide because the real ranges are wide; anyone selling you a precise number is selling you a fiction. Where the data is thinner, I say so.

It takes about four minutes. You can use either US dollars or Indian rupees as you go, and you can skip the target-number question if you haven't yet given yourself permission to name one. What comes back is meant to start a conversation with yourself, not finish one.

Your answers are yours. Nothing here is stored or shared without your asking.
