The Five-Year Look-Back

The Five-Year Look-Back · Way Back Home

A letter you will owe an answer to

Way Back Home

Every other tool in this series asks what you think. This one sends you five years forward and asks you to write back. Nothing here is a forecast and nothing is being marked. You are setting down, in your own words, the life you mean to make, while it is still early enough for the writing to change what you do.

Seven prompts, in four short parts. What you built. What you lost. What you gave, and who you gave it to. Nothing is scored and there is no benchmark anywhere in it.

Write in the past tense, as though the five years have already happened. That sounds like a trick and it is not. It is the only way to find out what you actually expect.

Your answers are yours. Nothing here is stored or shared without your asking.

Your letter

Five years from now
